The Daye copper mines are a 30-45 minute taxi ride away. Although still a functioning mine, the portion that is worth seeing are the ancient mines and the museum that has been built on top of them. Because it's a little ways out in the country, the museum is empty, but is well worth visiting. It's also worth crossing the bridge over the Yangtze (away from the city) and walking along the beaches of the river. You can often find students and kids playing and eating out there.
