Huizhou is located in the southeast of Guangdong Province. It is in the northeast portion of the Pearl River Delta, north of Daya Bay and adjacent to Shenzhen and Hong Kong. It contains two state-level development zones: Daya Bay Economic and Technological Development Zone and Zhongkai Hi-Tech Development Zone. Of the 3.21 million people that live in Huizhou, 85,500 people are from ethnic minorities. Huizhou’s most widely spoken dialects are Cantonese and Hakka.

Huizhou has been an important part of Guangdong since the Sui and Tang Dynasties. For over a thousand years, many historical figures have been born, have lived or have launched great campaigns here. Su Dongpo, a renowned poet of the Northern Song Dynasty, once lived in Huizhou for three years. Zhou Enlai, the first premier of the People's Republic of China, once did revolutionary work in Huizhou. And many democratic fighters like Liao Zhongkai, Deng Yanda, Ye Ting and Zen Sheng have been born here.

Carrying the fame of "Top Mountain in Guangdong", Luofu is a state-level scenic area and one of the Top 10 Taoist Mountains in China. It is close to the River Dongjiang, and some 35 km from Boluo County. Luofu is known for its beautiful scenery and magnificent temples. It also has four features -- peaks and stones of vivid shapes, springs and falls of clear water, fogs and clouds of mysterious attraction, and caves and temples of unique tranquility -- the latter being the most famous.
Huizhou's West Lake is a national AAAA-Rated tourist attraction. Situated in the actual city of Huizhou, the core scenic spot covers an area of 3.2 km2 with around 1.46 km2 of water. Huizhou West Lake consists of 5 lakes and has 6 bridges and 16 famous scenes.
Famously known as the "Oasis on the Tropic of Cancer", Mountain Nankun is a state forest park with a variety of plants and animal species. It is an ideal summer resort and boasts a natural oxygen pool. Nankun is 129 km from Longmen County with some 30 scenic spots, including overlooking peaks, stone rivers, The Chuanlong Waterfalls, Guanyin Pond with an amazing night view of Seven Star Peak. Family hotels on Nankun are well-known in Pearl Delta cities.
