[edit] Description

The Pagoda of Six Harmonies is located on the northern bank of the Qiantang River, south of Hangzhou. It was first built in 970 A.D., but was destroyed in a battle in 1121. It was rebuilt as a brick and wooden structure in 1153 A.D. The pagoda, almost 60 meters high, is the best place to have a spectacular view of the scenery around Qiantang River.

[edit] History

Legend says that the pagoda was first built during the Northern Song Dynasty (386-581) to calm the tidal waters of the Qiantang River, and also to serve as a navigational post. But it was completely destroyed during a battle in 1121. The pagoda was later rebuilt and restored during the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing Dynasties (1644 -1911) with additional exterior eaves added.
