We recently sat down with Mr. Wu Bin, the chairman of the Shenzhen’s top travel agency “Each Travel” and spoke with him about the current state of the travel industry and some of the travel tours he provides for his ‘Luxury’ clients. China International Travel Service of Shenzhen Co., Ltd. was the first travel company established in Shenzhen and is now the largest. Shenzhen has the most sophisticated and knowledgeable consumers in China. Shenzhen “Each Travel” was purchased from the Chinese Government in 2000 and became “Each Travel”. China National Tourism Administration recognized and awarded them two top honors for Chinese travel companies for "domestic travel" and "International Travel". There are numerous awards they have won through the years; in short, all these awards prove the scale and strength of EachTravel. Mr. Wu Bin is also the executive director of China Association of Travel Agents, Guangdong Provincial Association of Travel Agents, Vice president of the Shenzhen Tourism Association, committee member of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of CPPCC. The following are his thoughts and expertise regarding the travel business:
The Travel industry in China has been active for about 25 years. Growing at a rapid pace, China's tourism has undergone tremendous recent changes compared with 20 years ago. Currently in China the main tourism market still consists of group travel, but the current situation, because of many reasons, Chinese tourists are forced to choose group travel. In recent years, China's tourism has undergone many new changes, for example, personal travel, family travel, independent travel, air ticket & hotel, holiday travel, in fact, has shown that tourism in China is still huge and is still growing. Each year, it has more than 15%, double-digit rate of growth, but individual travel, self-drive travel, and cruise travel which are suitable for high-end tourism projects are also increasing.
Shenzhen people are the most experienced in China’s tourism, since the opening-up of China's tourism started in Guangdong, Guangdong is Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, and the Pearl River Delta. Compared to Shandong and northeast China, Shenzhen people have more experience in travel and higher frequency of travel. Of course, there are reasons for our high standard of living. High-end tourism, or luxury tourism, now in China and the speed of development is quite fast. For instance, starting two or three years ago, during the annual Chinese New Year and summer vacation we provided several group tourism products, and we also do some smaller group tourism packages. The characteristic of small tourism products is not group travel, but is family, friends, or personal travel. Why are some people not satisfied with group travel? Because large group travel has a lot of rules, starting off together, getting up together, and having dinner together, there is no individuality, only common experiences. In this case, Shenzhen travelers request more highly personalized service, and for many tourists, this common travel experience can’t meet their needs. Sophisticated travelers, such as CEO’s of large companies, overseas returnees, scientific and technological personnel, Shenzhen expatriate staff and many sophisticated Hong Kong people that work in Shenzhen and their wife and children live in Shenzhen, they are not keen on group travel, but seek personal travel, we have call it FIT (Full Independent Travel) for short.
