Zhuhai (珠海) is located at the southern estuary of the Pearl River delta region in Guangdong (广东) Province. Its economy and tourism industry benefit tremendously from its strategic physical location: Macau (澳门) to the south and Hong Kong (香港) to the east across the South China Sea.

Zhuhai consists of three separate townships: Gongbei, Jida and Xiangzhou. Gongbei district, on the border with Macau, is a thriving tourist area, including such tourist hot spots as the New Yuan Ming Palace and Jiuzhou Cheng. Jida district to the northeast is where harbor and many holiday resorts reside. The airport stands at the Xiangzhou district, to the east of the city.

Dotted by many small islands off the coast, and also home to an annual air show, Zhuhai boasts the amiable climate, clean air, beautiful beaches and convenient transportation, and has been entitled as a Model City for Environment Protection by the United Nation. The city has seen a steady increase in the number of visitors from both inland and neighboring cities of Macau (澳门) and Hong Kong (香港) recently.

Zhuhai's major industries include food, electronics, chemical and textiles. Local specialties are fruit, flowers, and seafood including crab, lobster, oyster, squid. The Wanshan Fishery is one of the biggest in Guangdong Province.

Zhuhai used to be a small agricultural town without too much special historical background. But things changed and economic boom followed after it was established as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in 1980 under Deng Xiaoping's economic policies.
